SUPERCOACHES are spoilt for choice in terms of backline buys this week, with Josh Mansour, Konrad Hurrell, Greg Inglis and Jamie Lyon all set to be popular. But four can’t go into one. Together, Josh Mansour, Konrad Hurrell, Greg Inglis and Jamie Lyon are always hot topics when it comes to this game we play. This year however, Inglis and Lyon are starting to stray away from the title of “must-haves” leaving spots open for other CTW contenders, like Mansour and Hurrell. For me, Mansour is a great buy this week. He has a break even of -24 according to SuperCoach Gold and is therefore in line for a massive pay rise. With a low score of 87 from the two matches he has already played, Mansour is at good odds to come back with a bang for Penrith this weekend against Canberra. He also has a past dogged by the occasional injury plus poor form which has led to him being dropped from the Warriors a number of times. In saying that, he has blasted his way into the starting side in the last two Warriors matches and is probably a better option than Inglis or Lyon at this stage. That’s how close a call it is between backline buys Konrad Hurrell and Josh Mansour this week. While Jamie Lyon and Greg Inglis are more buys for next week given they will either stay steady or lose value, both Hurrell and Mansour are “now or never” purchases given they will soar in worth after this round, according to exclusive stats on SuperCoach Gold. If you can, buy them both. If not, Hurrell comes out just on top, with Mansour’s propensity for injury and Hurrell’s availability for round 11 the main aspects. • PRICE: Impossible to split. Not only do they currently cost a similar amount, but they will cost almost exactly the same next week too. Hurrell is projected to soar by $32,000. Mansour is projected to see a $57,000 price rise. • BASE STATS (tackles, tackle breaks, offloads and runs): These are key indicators as they reveal how a player would score in their poorest games. On face value, Mansour holds a clear advantage. But at closer examination, Hurrell more than holds his own. Mansour scored an average of 64 points in base stats over the opening rounds – the best rate of any back and better than most forwards. Hurrell has averaged 42.5 in base stats this year – a good rate, but not in the same ballpark as Mansour. Jamie Lyon’s price should stay steady this week. Only one of Mansour’s byes fall on tough Origin weeks, while both Hurrell’s breaks fall on big rounds. • JOB SECURITY: Mansour’s injury history is a massive worry. He played just 14 games last year and has already missed two matches this season due to a hamstring issue. Hurrell has never suffered a serious injury and is very reliable in this department. His big danger is being dropped. He started the year in NSW Cup after putting on 10kg over Christmas and struggling with physical fitness. However, a gruelling new regime and diet has him in the best shape of his career. At his current level of fitness and form, Hurrell is simply un-droppable.
